In the past few weeks, shootings in the Chicago area started in a mall parking lot, on the sidewalk outside a River North nightclub, in parked cars and at the front doors of homes.
Most of them happened on or right next to private property. That is exactly where a visible security guard or a regular patrol makes a difference.

Where the risk is for property owners
- Parking lots and garages. The Oakbrook Center shooting started in the lot. In Austin, a man was shot sitting in a parked car.
- Entrances at closing time. Both River North shootings happened between 3:20 and 3:40 a.m., as people left the bars.
- Arguments that escalate. Many Labor Day shootings started as disputes that no one stepped in to stop.
- Building entries at night. Intruders entered a home on South Princeton Avenue at 2:38 a.m.
- Dark, empty areas after hours. Unwatched lots and side doors invite trouble.
What Valle security guards and patrols do
| Risk spot | What Valle does |
|---|---|
| Parking lots and garages | Regular foot or vehicle patrols, checks on loitering cars, and escorts for staff and customers to their cars at closing. |
| Entrances at closing time | An officer posted at the door to manage the line, clear the sidewalk and call police early. |
| Disputes on your property | Steps in to de-escalate before it turns violent, and documents what happened. |
| Lobbies and building entries | Access control, camera monitoring and door and gate checks on overnight rounds. |
| After hours | Mobile patrol visits at random times, with a report after each check. |
A uniformed officer on the lot changes behavior. That visible presence is the point.

Frequently asked questions
Do I need a full-time guard or a patrol?
It depends on the risk and the hours. Busy lots and late-closing venues usually need a posted officer. Quieter properties often do well with mobile patrol checks at random times.
Armed or unarmed — which do I need?
Unarmed officers cover most parking lots and buildings. If there has been violence or threats at your property, we usually recommend armed officers or off-duty police. We will advise you during the free assessment.
How fast can you start?
